Why the Silent Mammoth nasal dilator is the best!

Why the Silent Mammoth nasal dilator is the best!

At Breath and Balance we have tried many different external and internal nasal dilators and by far, the Silent Mammoth is our favorite. This is because it is the most reusable, comfortable and effective nasal dilator that we have found. In this blog post, we offer a bit more information on the Silent Mammoth.

About the Silent Mammoth

The Silent Mammoth is a unique, comfortable, anatomically-based device designed for use all day and all night. Constructed with medical-grade silicone over a fully adjustable stainless steel frame, its design gently expands the area where air flows.

Other devices rely on tension to stay put, but Silent is different. It anchors in the tip of the nose instead so it doesn't fall out, and each side can be adjusted individually. Silent is built to be perfectly sized so it fits you, meaning it can be comfortably worn all day. Its low profile makes it hardly noticeable to others when it's in place. Silent is washable and reusable, with a convenient carrying case and adjustment tool.

So what makes the Silent Mammoth so great?

It's Low Profile

The amazing team behind Silent Mammoth discuss the benefits of the low profile wire used in their device here. The TL;DR is that our nose has a given radius, we can use a nasal dilator to expand this. It helps us breathe better through our nose. Whilst a nasal dilator expands the radius of the nose, it also adds material which reduces the radius a little bit. The flow of air through a space is disproportionately impacted by the radius of that space (see Poiseuille's Law). Low profile nasal dilators allow the airway to expand more because they don't add so much material.

The Silent Mammoth adds less than 0.5 mm of material to the nose other devices add at least 2-3 mm of material back.

Silent Mammoth Works With the Body

The Silent Mammoth works with the body and holds itself in place across the length of the nose. This means it stays stable and doesn't move around much within the nostril.

Other devices secure onto your septum or the sides of the nasal cavity. This means that they can wiggle back and forward and fall out more easily. Over time the wiggling can start to rub on the sensitive surfaces of the nose and cause discomfort.

The Silent stays in place in the nose and expands the nasal passages more effectively.

Wear it Many Times

The Silent Mammoth lasts for around 60 days. Don't tell anyone, but I have worn my most recent Large Silent Mammoth for 4-months. It is probably a good idea to replace your Silent Mammoth if the silicone coating starts to degrade.

This makes the Silent Mammoth more sustainable and economical despite the slightly higher retail price.

It Looks Subtle and Cute

Aesthetically, we love the Silent Mammoth its low profile means that it looks subtle and more akin to a piercing than it's chunkier plastic rivals. Some other nasal dilators that I have tried have gone a slightly disconcerting yellowy colour.
